Balance

Balance: the inner and outer world.

As humans, we have two distinct energies or lives, one external, the other internal. The external is animalistic or physical, it is vibrant, defined by movement, action, a focus on exploring and interacting with the physical world in which we run, climb, eat, breathe, play. We can move from room to room, city to city, country to country. The inner world, in contrast, is found in stillness. When we still our bodies, calm our senses, and look inwards.

Exploring the inner world, we can imagine or see an infinite number of worlds, an infinite number of futures. In the external world we choose where to go and what to experience. In the inner world we choose with our imagination and intuition, entering the realm of creation and causation. In the outer world we experience what is being created or has already been created, in the inner world we give birth to creation. Take a step with your foot and you tread forward, take a step with your imagination and you can create something new from a universe of potential and possibility.

Life is a balance of this outer and inner world, a balance between action and intention, between experience and vision. Open your eyes and the world shows you a feast for your senses. Close your eyes and go inward and it is as if there is an endless curtain full of folds, open a fold in the curtain and you reveal a vast expanse; a life that can be lived, or a world that can become. In the invisible world, all is visible. There is no rush in the inner world, yet creation can occur in an instant.

“In the invisible world all is visible.”

At different times in our lives we are more internally or externally focused. Active during the day or in the summer, resting before bedtime or in the winter, active during our youth and more reflective as we get older. A good life is built upon understanding, mastering, and achieving balance between the inner world and the outer world. Understanding and mastering yourself and the world around you. The foundations or roots for a good life are built in the inner world, while the fruit ripens in the outer world. When our animalistic side becomes too dominant it can show as physical violence, excessive consumption, or continual fear and anxiety. When the animal aspect of ourselves aligns with the inner or soul aspect, we live in balance and harmony. When our two aspects are aligned towards a common goal our desires and actions transcend the darker side of our nature to manifest our highest individual and collective potential.
